Saied and Menfi discuss cross-border trade and Tunisia-Libya ties

Tunisian President Kais Saied discussed with Presidential Council chief Mohamed Al-Menfi ways to strengthen bilateral relations and remove obstacles affecting the movement of people and goods between the two countries.

The discussion took place during a phone call on Wednesday evening, and covered ways to address shared challenges building on ties of fraternity and integration between the two countries, amid fast-moving regional developments, according to a statement.

Saied stressed the importance of raising the level of consultation between Tunisia and Libya, and working to remove obstacles and ease the movement of people and goods in both directions across the various border crossings, underlining the depth of the ties between the two peoples.

The Tunisian president reiterated his country's firm position in support of Libyan unity, affirming that a resolution to the Libyan crisis "can only be Libyan-Libyan." Saied said Libyans possess the capacity to reach solutions they can accept, ones that secure their safety and stability and fulfil their aspirations for prosperity and growth.
